Dr. Zeng’s research interests relate to the development of theory and algorithms in two fundamental areas of remote sensing: (1) radiative transfer and (2) inverse modeling/retrieval. Radiative transfer characterizes the propagation of light in the atmosphere, consisting of absorption and scattering by gas molecules and particles, and its interaction with land and ocean surface. Inverse modeling involves the development of robust algorithms to retrieve atmospheric properties from observed atmospheric radiation. Currently, he is leading a research group at Peking University to develop a remote sensing algorithm system that synergizes the strengths of LEO/GEO hyperspectral spectroscopy observations to obtain accurate information on atmospheric trace gases.
