RESEARCH PROFILE
Dr. Zhan’s research interest focuses on design of organic semiconductors and fabrication of functional electronic devices (solar cells, transistors, photodetectors, etc.). Dr. Zhan has made pioneering and exceptional contributions to the development of nonfullerene acceptor materials for use in organic photovolatics. He created a class of nonfullerene acceptors termed “fused-ring electron acceptor” as a more effective replacement of the classical fullerene-based acceptors and advanced the entire field to an unprecedented level. Dr. Zhan has published 390 peer-reviewed research papers in journals. These papers were cited 53,300 times (Google Scholar), and 9 papers were cited >1000 times per paper. His research work was highlighted by Science, Chemical & Engineering News, MRS Bulletin, ACS Noteworthy Chemistry, Wiley Materials Views, etc. 21 of his papers were highlighted as Covers of Accounts of Chemical Research, Chemical Society Reviews, Advanced Materials, etc. He has published 1 book and 9 book chapters published by Wiley, Royal Society of Chemistry and Science Press. He has applied for 9 PCT patents and 34 China invention patents. He has presented more than 100 plenary, keynote and invited talks in international and national conferences.
