I mainly teach three courses at the Peking University, they are graduate courses Physical Oceanography and Cryospheric Dynamics, and undergraduate course Introductory Climatology. In Physical Oceanography, students will gain both modeling experience (with MITgcm) and lab experience (with experiments on a rotating table). In Cryospheric Dynamics, students will gain experience with the ice sheet model ISSM. Both courses got excellent evaluation by students, with scores of 100/100 and 99.8/100, respectively.

Undergraduate Courses

Introductory Climatology

Description: This course introduces basic concepts, observations and mechanisms about climate system, climate and climate change including, for example, the patterns of temperature, precipitation, wind of present-day climate, energy balance of the surface climate, simple interactions between atmosphere, ocean, land and ice, how climate changes under the influence of solar variability, Earth’s orbit and greenhouse gases during the past and in the future.

Graduate Courses

Cryospheric Dynamics

Description: This course introduces the phenomena and theory related to the dynamics of both glaciers (ice on land) and sea ice. It was open in 2015 and taught in English, but has paused since 2016 due to other teaching load.

Physical Oceanography

Description: This course introduces the physical properties, observational techniques, the waves and the circulation of the oceans. The major part of the course is to use the equations and theories of the geophysical fluid dynamics to understand the so-called wind-driven circulation and the thermohaline circulation. The understanding is deepened through homework with both numerical simulations with MITgcm and lab experiment with a rotating tank.
